The RISE™ Philosophy
Reclaim, Integrate, Strengthen, Elevate: Dr. Patel’s evidence-first philosophy for building strength and healthspan, with or without surgery.
The short answer
RISE™ is Dr. Patel’s philosophy for building the body that carries you through your strongest decades: before a joint replacement, after one, or while working to avoid one. Reclaim function. Integrate the fundamentals. Strengthen muscle, bone, and balance. Elevate past “not in pain” toward the life you actually want.
Take back the function you assumed aging had claimed.
Fold protein, training, and sleep into one real-life plan.
Build muscle, bone, and balance at every age.
Aim past “not in pain” toward the life you actually want.
In his own words
“I spent my training learning to replace worn-out joints. But two things are true at once: some joints genuinely need me, and a lot of bodies just need to get stronger, move more, and eat like they plan to be here at 90.
That’s RISE™. It’s the optimistic part: build muscle, protect your bones, get your protein, train your balance. It is never too late to start. And it’s the honest part: I’ll tell you what the evidence actually shows, where we’re still guessing, and when the smartest move is not an operation. No hype, no supplement I’m selling you, no fear. Just the fundamentals with real evidence behind them, from a surgeon who’d rather see you strong than see you in the operating room.”
Reclaim and Integrate
Reclaim means taking back the function and confidence you assumed aging had claimed, starting with the activity that matters to you, not a generic checklist.
Integrate means folding the fundamentals into a real life: protein spread across the day rather than saved for dinner, resistance training you can sustain, sleep, weight, and medical preparation treated as one connected system rather than separate chores.
Strengthen and Elevate
Strengthen reaches beyond range of motion to muscle, bone density, balance, and the durable habits that support a joint over time, native or replaced. Muscle and strength respond to resistance training well into later life, including in the seventies and eighties; the federal physical activity guidelines, linked below, recommend muscle-strengthening work for adults at every age.
Elevate means aiming past the limited baseline arthritis imposed, back toward the thing you actually miss, while being honest that goals, health, and outcomes vary. It is an intention backed by work, not a guarantee.
Nothing here is sold to you.
There is no program to buy, no supplement line, and no membership. This page describes an approach; it is education, not medical advice.
The RISE™ articles will cover what the evidence says about protein after 50, lifting for bone density, preparing your body for surgery, protecting muscle on weight-loss medications, and when a joint problem does not need an operation. Each one will carry its sources, and will say where the evidence is thin rather than round it up. Talk with your own physician before changing exercise, nutrition, or medication, especially around surgery.
Use the consultation to make the decision clearer.
